Teeth stainer
_ One negative consequence of drinking coffee is that it can stain the teeth (Carver, 2009). Teeth contains a hard white layer that covers and protects the teeth from tooth decay called the enamel (American Dental Association, 2011). These pores in the enamel can erode and be filled with coffee, making the teeth appear yellow. Dark colored beverages such as coffee, soda and tea can color the teeth. These drinks are acidic and attacks the enamel, making teeth prone to staining. Coffee can also dehydrate a person, causing the mouth to produce less saliva (Carver, 2009). Saliva naturally cleans and rinses the mouth from bacteria and waste products that causes staining. With less saliva in the mouth, stains in teeth are more likely to occur.
