_ Drinking soft drinks are bad to the health of teenagers because the caffeine inside can lead to calcium loss (International Osteoporosis Foundation, 2011). Caffeine decreases calcium absorption and as a diuretic, it increases the calcium excreted in urine. Teens prefer to drink caffeine-containing drinks rather than milk which puts them into a greater risk of developing osteoporosis. Soft drinks also contain phosphoric acid which increases calcium loss in the body (Ni, 2009). This amplifies the negative effects of caffeine to the bone. Teens should avoid drinking soft drinks because the loss of calcium puts them into a greater risk of developing bone problems.
