_ Many drinks claim that they can make us feel more alert and have more energy. What makes this all possible is the caffeine inside these drinks. Caffeine, as a stimulant, allows messages to travel faster along the nervous system (Connolly, 2011). This causes the drinker to feel more alert and have more energy. It also takes out the feeling of drowsiness and fatigue by stimulating the cortex of our brain. Some might feel that drinking caffeinated drinks makes them smarter, but there is no solid evidence that proves it. However, since caffeine allows messages to travel faster, information can be easily processed and makes it easier to think (Malik, 2001). Caffeine can be very helpful to teens who are doing an intellectual task like studying, but drinking more than what is recommended could have bad effects to the body.
